A Florida mom who has shaved her 4-year-old daughter’s head for Halloween is in hot water
— A Florida woman who shaved her 5-year of age daughter’s hair for Halloween in a public park last year says she was denied a job and forced to sell her home because of her gender identity.
Kristy Shaver said she has been fighting to get a job since the incident in January and has had no luck.
Shaver, who asked that her last name not be used, said she is the only person in the community who has not had her hair shaved since the ordeal.
“This has made me feel invisible,” Shaver told CBS affiliate WTVR.
“I’m not sure how this has happened to me and what to do next.”
Shaver, 44, said her hair was shaved in front of a large crowd in February.
Her mother, Traci, and sister, Kayla, then took the hair to the local hair salon and shaved it in front a large group of people.
Traci Shaver also said the salon cut off her daughter’s dreadlocks.
Kristie Shaver’s story has been covered by the Orlando Sentinel, The Orlando Sentinel newspaper and WTVV.
Kristie Shavers hair has been on display at the local beauty parlor for the last year and a half.
Kristi Shaver had her own Halloween costume, and her family dressed up as the characters in the Disney movie, Frozen.
They took the children’s costumes to a local salon and cut off the dreadlocks on their daughters hair.
Kristies hair is now covered with pink-colored strands.
Kristina Shaver was born a boy, but her parents say they have no idea why she was born with feminine characteristics.
“We don’t know what’s going on, because it’s very, very personal,” Traci Shavers daughter said.
“It’s very difficult for her to get to know who she is, what she looks like and what she’s supposed to do.”
Shavers daughter told WTVU that she is very happy with her hair and wants to continue to shave her own.
The Shavers have started a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of their legal battle with the salon.
